Our Statistics

So far, since we began in 2018, we have kept detailed records and will update monthly. The statistics below are accurate from 05/04/2018 to 11/05/2023.

Overall Homebirth rate. Over 95%

Caesarean Rate: Less than 5% (WHO comments on caesarean rates)

Instrumental Birth rate: 0%

We didn’t make it in time to one birth, but arrived when the baby was 3 minutes old. January 1st, what a glorious start to the year! I was delighted to write “everyone looking very pleased with themselves” - which was exactly what my Independent Midwives (Amanda Garside and Janie Al Alawi) wrote after the rapid birth of my fifth VBAC baby at home.

So these are our main details. But there are others

Over 90% of our clients used a birth pool during their labour/birth. I provide pools and consumables to all clients.

80% of first time parents had a homebirth.

Only 55% of our clients needed entonox. I bring entonox and if you ask for it, I hand it over. I do not offer it, but it is there. I also bring qualifications in labour massage and aromatherapy and I use rebozo.

Over 45% of our clients had an intact perineum and less than 5% had sutures. We had no 3rd degree tears. I am able to suture at home, and have a particular interest in tissue viability, especially as it relates to clients with connective tissue disorders.

Over 77% of our clients had a physiological third stage. The longest wait we had for a placenta was 8 hours. Managed third stage is only ever done after nuanced discussion if there is heavy bleeding, or at maternal request.

Our heaviest baby so far was 4940g, or 10lbs 14oz, born at home in water.

One baby needed resuscitation and transfer to NICU postnatally.

Our clients come from all backgrounds. I specialise in working with people with previous birth trauma, and I rarely have “low risk” clients as I can often assist those to get the care they want from the NHS.
